What Is Split System Air Conditioning?
Split system air conditioning comprises two units, an outdoor unit with the condenser and compressor, and an indoor unit that has the evaporator, air handler, filters, and furnace. How Does Split System Air Conditioning Work?
Split system air conditioning systems can be used to provide instant cooling during summers and keep you warm and comfortable during winters. When cooling, a split system works by absorbing warm air from the room and releasing the excess heat out through the outdoor unit while the reverse cycle allows heating inside the room. Refrigerant is also used which plays a vital role in cooling the air. Refrigerant is a liquid component that turns into gas as it cools. Low levels of refrigerant impact cooling and can reduce the efficiency of the split system air conditioning unit.
The four main components in a split system air conditioning are the condenser coil, compressor, evaporator coil, and expansion valve. As you turn on the split system air conditioning, the indoor unit absorbs the heat and passes it over the evaporator coil. The refrigerant present in the evaporator coil travels to the compressor. As the compressor creates high pressure and heats the refrigerant, the heated liquid refrigerant is passed to the condenser coil in the outdoor unit. The outdoor unit then releases the heated air outside the room with the help of a blower or fan. The hot refrigerant then passes through the expansion valve, is cooled down, and sent back to the evaporator coil completing a cycle. This is repeated until the desired temperature is maintained. The compressor shuts down once cooling is done and switches on again when the temperature increases.
